Be very careful exactly whose gold is at the end of that rainbow you’re chasing. And you had better hope it doesn’t belong to this guy, because he doesn’t understand the concept of sharing. The saga begins in 1993’s Leprechaun, when Daniel O’Grady captures the Lubdan the Leprechaun (Warwick Davis) in Ireland, then steals his gold and brings it to his American (North Dakota) home (this series was not going to pay for exotic foreign locations). The leprechaun doesn’t intent\d to lose his fortune, and follows O’Grady to the US to try to regain his gold. When he challenges O’Grady, he is injured and sealed in a crate with a four-leaf clover.
A decade passes before Tory Redding (played by none other than Jennifer Aniston) sets him free. The leprechaun goes on a very bloody quest for his fortune. This time, however he is successful – right up until he’s not.
Despite the stellar cast, the film was not well-received. It was, however, able to gross $8.6 million in the US, which more than repaid the studio’s cost of under $1 million. With profit made, the sequel was assured.
Here’s your quick peak at Leprechaun:
After Leprechaun’s success, there was no waiting the usual two years for the sequel. No, Leprechaun 2 followed immediately on the original’s heels the very next year, in 1994. This time, the leprechaun was seeking a wife – not surprising since the last time he had a girlfriend was a thousand years ago.
The film follows Lubdan (again played by Warwick Davis) to modern-day Los Angeles as he hunts down a descendant of his original fiancee. He succeeds in finding the teenaged Bridget, but she turns out not to be as enamored of him as he expected. Worse, while he has her held captive, her boyfriend Cody steals some of his gold. After going several rounds with the leprechaun, Cody saves Bridget and seems to overcome the leprechaun – at least until the next sequel.
Here’s what you can expect from Leprechaun 2:
