Film maker Michael Dougherty confirmed to the website Upcoming Horror Movies that he is still working on the script for the sequel to his 2007 film “Trick ’r Treat.”
Like the first film, “Trick ’r Treat 2″ will be anthology, but it will feature different creatures from the first film. “There are different archetypes I’d like to explore, different types of monsters. We covered werewolves, vampires, and zombies, but there’s a whole slew of different creatures out there that we haven’t tackled, and I think Sam would probably be pretty good buddies with. So I think it’s time to let them have their time in the sun.” It is likely that this sequel may explore more of Sam and get into his back story telling more about “who and what he actually is.”
The 2007 film was enthusiastically received at San Diego Comic-Con. I was in that audience; the film was terrific and the surprise on-stage telephone call to star Anna Paquin was a hoot. Despite everyone’s high hopes, the film then fell into release limbo. Unable to secure a distributor for a theatrical release, Dougherty released the film on DVD in 2009. With Legendary Pictures behind the sequel, the sequel may obtain the theatrical release its predecessor didn’t.
Let’s hope so.
